Can AI Design Your Logo? Sort of… But Not Really.

AI Logos Can Look Clever, But They Fall Flat

AI logo design is everywhere right now, and on the surface, it can look clever. But just because AI can generate shapes and symbols doesn’t mean it can create a logo that truly reflects your brand. The results often fall flat.

Here’s where it gets interesting…

AI is amazing at sparking ideas. But sparks aren’t the same as a full flame. 🔥

To test it out, we gave ChatGPT a prompt for Infability Group, and it came back with some starting points, but not a usable logo for this brand. It gave us infinity symbols, business growth, upward steps, and it checked some boxes, but it didn’t deliver a logo that truly fit the brand.

Here’s one of the concepts it spit out:

Not bad, but we can’t really say it’s good, either. It’s clever and geometric, and it looks like a logo you might see on a stock brand kit. But here’s where it fizzles: AI doesn’t know your business. It doesn’t know your audience, your values, or the subtle nuance of how you want to be perceived.

Human Touch in Design Still Matters

That’s where designers come in. We took the seed of an idea AI provided, then designed this instead:

See the difference? One is a concept, the other is a brand identity. The AI inspired us, but the final mark reflects stability, growth, and a limitless vision because it was built with strategy, context, and a genuine understanding of Infability Group.

The Secret to Better AI Prompts for Branding

The big takeaway? The more information you give ChatGPT, the more it gives back.

  • Vague prompts = vague results
  • Detailed prompts = strong building blocks

Don’t be afraid to ask ChatGPT questions before you hit “submit” because clarity in equals clarity out.

For example, instead of asking ChatGPT for “a logo idea for a consulting company,” you could say:

“Suggest logo ideas for a consulting brand that helps small businesses grow with confidence. The brand values clarity, long-term growth, and trustworthiness. The audience is entrepreneurs who feel overwhelmed by scaling.”

See the difference? The second one gives context, values, and audience. All the ingredients that fuel stronger ideas.

🔥 Blaze Team Hot Tip: Think of it like giving directions. If you tell someone, “Go north,” they’ll wander. But if you say, “Walk two blocks, turn left at the café with the red awning, then head toward the park,” they’ll actually get where you want them to go. AI works the same way.

You Need A Foundation Before You Design

But here’s the real secret sauce: before you even think about design, you need a solid brand foundation. We call it Brand Architecture. Think of it as your blueprint before you start building. At the bare minimum, it covers:

  • Your Rock Star Clients → Three real people you’d love to work with.
  • Mission → Why you exist (beyond “making money”).
  • Vision → Where you’re headed.
  • Values → What you stand for and what you’ll never compromise.
  • Brand Pillars → The big themes that hold up your brand.
  • Brand Story → The distilled essence of who you are and how you show up across websites, videos, content, and conversations.

When you’ve nailed this, your brand communication—visually and verbally—becomes crystal clear. Everything aligns: who you are, what you do, and how your audience experiences you, from “hello” to “goodbye.”

And I’ll take it one step further. AI has knowledge, but it doesn’t have wisdom. Years of experience, lessons learned, and mistakes made give you perspective and nuance that go beyond basic design principles. As designers, we’re working with actual applications and results, not theories, so when AI gives us something that falls just a little short, we know what to ask for and how it needs to evolve. AI is a jack of all trades, not an expert in a craft, and when any project, AI or otherwise, is driven by someone operating in their zone of genius, it’s going to be better than a generic prompt.

So, can AI design your logo?

Technically, yes.

Should you let it?

Absolutely not.

Because your logo is more than a shape. It’s the story, strategy, and soul of your brand.
